Short Attention Span Version

  • Sunnyvale, California 94085
  • RSVP for location/directions

A bit about Peter

Raised in a family of "harmony junkies" in Birmingham, Alabama, Peter Adams earned his BA in Music at the University Of The South, in bustling Sewanee, Tennessee. Then he picked up an MA from University Of Alabama School of Music (a mere 233 miles away in Tuscaloosa).

Fast forward to 1999. Peter met Virginian-turned-Angelino Kat Maslich. Their voices blended and their songwriting styles meshed into "haunted mountain music with modern beats." As eastmountainsouth, the duo sold more than 50,000 copies of their self-titled Dreamworks debut.

Although eastmountainsouth is no more, Mr. Adams continues to grace us with his lush, full sound. Peter's MySpace page says he plays "alt-folk-rock-americana-ish drone pop." While I share his proclivity for hyphen abuse, I have no idea what that means. :)

But I do know you should come listen.

I've just update my house concerts web site with details for three shows:
Libbie is the former frontwoman for Pantene Pro-Voice winners Think of England. She's opened foe Poe, Jewel and Rusted Root. Her music has been played on NPR and KCRW. But the important pat is she's just that good. Just how someone makes and emotional connection with listeners is hard to describe; no matter; Libbie does it.

I found out about Sam Shaber through my friend Diana's old house concert series. Sam's won awards in the John Lennon, Billboard, and USA Songwriting Competitions. Whether she's writing about family, love or New York, Sam is a joy to watch and listen to.

Anne Heaton and Edie Carey — this is my first two-performance show. Also discovered via the aforementioned series. Anne's quirky, smart, upbeat writing style (listen to "Underdog" or "Megan & Kevin") and candid conversations are sure to win you over. Oh yeah, she also opened for Jewel.

MTV's Road Rules featured one of Edie's songs. Please don't hold that against her. :) Her four solid albums of folk of introspective folk-pop more than make up for it. She's also caught the ear of NPR at the Utah Olympic organizers. Now, let her catch yours.
12th-Apr-2005 11:26 pm - janet robin house concert
It's April, which means it's time for another house concert. :-)

Short attention span version

  • Janet Robin
  • Friday, April 22, 2005. 8 p.m.
  • Sunnyvale, California 94085
  • Suggested contribution: $10.
  • RSVP for location/directions.
I've built a web site that makes it easy for you to RSVP. So, please let me know if you're coming. You can change your mind (and your reservation) at any time. If the web site doesn't seem to be working for you, send me an email. The site also has iCal and RSS feeds, which makes it easy to keep track of upcoming shows.

A bit about Janet

Janet Robin's got a handful of albums under her belt and has played for and with the best of 'em: guitarist in Lindsey Buckingham's (Fleetwood Mac) band, opened for Michelle Shocked and Catie Curtis. She can write, she can sing, she can entertain. She's "intense" in Los Angeles, "fiery" in Los Cerritos and can "rock the house" in New York. But it's her guitar playing that leaves you wondering "how did she do that?" Come find out just what blew me away.

Adrianne. One name. One really good house concert.
adrimusic.com
RSVP. Suggested donation: $10
Saturday, March 5, 2005. 8 p.m. Sharp.
Sunnyvale, California 94085

What's going on

Okay, so the headline was bad. Maybe really bad. But I'll make it up to you with some good music. Some really good music.

Duck in from the rainstorm, grab some tea (or perhaps a glass of wine) and sit down for an evening of songs and stories.

About Adrianne

Adrianne been called "a pure musical embodiment of soul" by Soundcheck. The good folks at SESAC say she's "riveting." Performing Songwriter featured her as a DIY pick. She's a finalist in this year's international songwriting competition.

You get the idea. But you don't, really. You don't get Adrianne until you see her. Live. The spark, the intensity, the emotion. Close your eyes and listen. Open them and revel.

Be there.

Carla Holden graces Sunnyvale with a house concert.
RSVP. Suggested donation: $10
Thursday, February 10, 2004. 8 p.m. Sharp.
Sunnyvale, California 94085

What's going on

We're celebrating the 10th house concert at my place the right way: Carla Holden plays the 10th of February. It promises to be a very special Thursday.

In addition to great music, interesting people and homemade baked goods (yes, from scratch, you've been missing out), I'll be giving away some nifty schwag to celebrate.

Just RSVP. And show up, of course.

About Carla Holden

It was sheer luck (and good traffic) that introduced me to the music of Carla Holden. You, on the other hand, don't need smooth sailing on the I-5 to make it to this show.

A rare native Californian, Carla attended school in Jamaica. Then she really went to school in the talent-rich clubs of New York City. After returning home to LA, she put her new-found chops to use on Wake Up and Love Me. Her debut disc meshes lyrics that range from angry to vulnerable with a mix of scat, beatboxing, driving percussion and crunchy guitars.

Carla's hard work hasn't gone unnoticed. She's picked up a pair of awards from ASCAP, heard her music on MTV and snagged DJ Dangermouse (The Grey Album) to produce her next disc.

Check out Carla's new band's web site and hear clips from Wake Up and Love Me.

A bonus: advance notice

For reading this far, you get a prize: the details of March's show. Award-winning singer-songwriter Adrianne will be playing on Saturday, March 5.
9th-Jan-2005 03:05 pm - Saucy Monky house concert
A very Saucy Monky house concert.
RSVP. Suggested donation: $10
Saturday, January 15, 2004. 8 p.m. Sharp.
Sunnyvale, California 94085

What's going on

Since two was so much fun, I'm doing it again. My first house concert of 2005 will feature the acoustic half of Saucy Monky. Annmarie Cullen and Cynthia Catania will start the new year off right.

Your New Year's resolution? Support great music. Start here.

About Saucy Monky

Saucy Monky's debut EP Celebrity Trash got noticed with its infectiously catchy "Flicker" and "Don't Wanna Know Your Name."

They've followed that up with Turbulence, which features more of Annemarie and Cynthia's fab voices and sticks-to-you-like-candy-apples pop. And one crazy cover of ... yes ... "I Touch Myself."

While Annmarie (of Dublin, Ireland) and Cynthia (somewhere in New Jersey) found each other by accident, where you will be a few Saturdays from now is completely under your control.
